The Anchor Inn - Another Award!

CAMRA Birmingham Branch Pub of the Year 2003

The Anchor Inn has been voted Pub of the Year for the third time by members of the Birmingham Branch of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale.

After CAMRA Birmingham Branch had completed a meeting in the lounge, Gerry was presented with the award and celebrated by having a free buffet for everyone in the pub.

Forthcoming Events

At last a few new dates for all to see! The following facts were gleaned from a leaflet I grabbed in the Anchor on January 21st. 2005. I'll try and add further dates as and when I get the details. Don't forget to try our mailing list if you want the news in advance. Well, sending an e-mail is a lot easier/lazier than updating the website...

Burns Weekend - Thursday 27th to Sunday 30th January, Several Scottish real ales available.

Valentine's Weekend - Friday 11th to Monday 14th. February, 12+ beers for the real ale lover.

Church End Weekend - Thursday 3rd. to Sunday 6th. March. 40 different beers from the famous local microbrewery. (Mind what you say about the beers at the bar as one of Church End's brewers drinks in the Anchor!)

St. Patrick's Day Parade - Sunday 13th. March (As the parade is only a few yards from the Anchor the pub tends to be busy.)

St. Patrick's Weekend - Thursday 17th. to Sunday 20th. March. A selection of Irish beers to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Easter Weekend - Friday 25th. March to Monday 28th. March. A festival with beers from one brewery (I'll try and find out WHICH brewery if possible.)

Good luck to Nicola in her new job, who'll be greatly missed. And don't forget that the Anchor's Quiet Room is now open - which is proving to be a popular refuge when things get busy in the bar.

The Anchor Inn is an independently run pub in the heart of the historic Digbeth area of Birmingham.

Anchor Inn - Public BarThe pub is situated only minutes walk from the city centre and the new Bull Ring area.

It's an easy pub to get to, once you've learnt to navigate the disruption of the city's ongoing developments. (We'll put an accurate area map on this site when the dust settles.)

The new East Side development is also a short distance from the Anchor, centred on Millennium Point.
The Anchor Inn - Public BarThe Anchor Inn has been voted Birmingham CAMRA Pub of the Year in 1996 and 1998.

The pub is one of the most popular freehouses in the West Midlands, and regularly appears in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide.

Anchor Inn WindowsThe character of the pub has been created by both the staff and customers over many years. People come from near and far to our pub, and we like to think we have one of the best pubs in Birmingham.

The Anchor has been in the Keane family for several years, and the current licensee is Gerry Keane (see the history of the Anchor for details).

Anchor Inn - Bradford Street door Please see our FOOD page to see what we may have on offer. (May be subject to change - Check on visiting pub).

We have a designated no smoking area for those who prefer these surroundings. This is adjacent to the public bar.

Anchor Inn - Heated Footrails! The Anchor Inn has become justifiably famous for its constantly changing range of real ales, mostly from small, independent breweries.

We occasionally have beer festivals, themed beer weekends or other such events.

The best way to keep informed about our special events is to join our successful MAILING LIST. When possible, we send out beer lists as well as event dates. (It's easier to do an e-mail than update a website!)

Our website now features an article about the Anchor, written by Kieron McMahon of the Midlands Pubs website.

The article provides plenty of information about the Anchor Inn and the history of the pubs in the Digbeth area.

Kieron researched the pub and the local area in Birmingham's Central Library, and has written a highly detailed account of the Anchor story.

The Anchor Inn does not have a car park, but parking is possible in the area with care.

Take care with off-street parking, as wheel clampers may be operating, particularly near the busy market areas.
